Teen Room Drop-In Program
Our Teen Room is open for drop-in every day after school until 6:30 p.m. (except for Wednesdays when it is open until 6:00 p.m.) when school is in session. Every day, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. we have Power Hour, which is a time dedicated for teens to get their homework done. Teens will receive a snack if they choose during that time. Staff are also available to help with homework when needed. Below are some examples of activities we do after Power Hour, though things change often depending on what our teens would like to do:
Mondays: Community Meeting – Join us we get together as a teen community to discuss this week's schedule, new activities/clubs the teens would like to do, play a group game, and enjoy an extra snack.
Tuesdays: Music of My Life – Jam out to your favorite artists or hear something new from one of your friends!
Wednesdays: Field Trips/Open Gym – Wednesdays are our longest days at the Club due to early release and so make the perfect day to get out and explore the surrounding community. Field trips typically happen once a month and require a parent signed permission slip to attend. Permission slips will be handed out to teens at least one week in advance of the field trip. On Wednesdays that we don't have a field trip, we will have open gym before Pour Hour.
Thursdays: Game Tournaments – Come see if you have what it takes to become Champion of Air Hockey or Ping-Pong.
Fridays: Pizza and a Movie – Unwind from a long school week with pizza and a movie. Teens choose the movie from select titles. Pizza is available for purchase for $1 a slice.
*All activities are examples and subject to change.
Be a Teen Tutor!
We encourage teens to tutor younger kids with reading, writing, comprehension and mathematic skills. This is a great opportunity for teens to get involved in the community and take on a mentoring and leadership role. Not only do teens benefit from this program, but the younger kids are shown the importance of education by youth they look up to.
Torch Club is a community service focused group that serves the Kirkland area. We have done service projects such as sending cards and cookies to the troops in Iraq, decorating donation boxes and visiting retirement homes. Grades 6-8 are welcome! Meetings take place every Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Club Teen Center.
Keystone is a community service focused group that serves the Club and surrounding area. Our service projects in the past have included putting on events such as fundraisers, Parents' Night Out and Teen Night. We have also spent a lot of time volunteering at a youth shelter in Seattle. Teens in grades 9-12 are welcome. Meetings take place every Thursday at from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Club Teen Center.
Need or want community service hours? Job experience? Then get involved in the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club Junior Staff!
