Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club Receive a Surprise from Delta Dental of Washington

In celebration of National Smile Month, Delta Dental of Washington handed out random acts of smiles all month to unsuspecting Western Washington residents and one lucky Boys and Girls Club, the Joel E. Smilow Clubhouse & Teen Center at Rainier Vista.

Throughout June, smile-inducing surprises encouraged people to pay it forward, passing along smiles to co-workers, friends, neighbors, or strangers. With help from Delta Dental's Tooth Fairy and Star 101.5 FM, the month's first 'Random Acts of Smiles' campaign included surprising Club kids with an appearance by Seattle Sounders FC 2 player Duncan McCormick, who autographed soccer balls.

"Smiles are free, contagious, and are considered a universal sign of happiness," said Kristin Merlo, CIO and CMO at Delta Dental of Washington, the state's leading dental benefits company. "There's an extreme importance of having a healthy smile, and smiling often. A healthy smile is a good indicator of overall health and wellness. Our hope is that these random acts create a true domino effect with kids and adults. Our visit to the Boys & Girls Club was about promoting healthy smiles and surprising the kids with a random kind act of kindness, with hopes they would pay it forward."

Delta Dental of Washington's commitment to oral health is rooted deeply in their mission. They work with lawmakers in Olympia to advocate for better oral health policies and their Foundation supports innovative approaches and practical solutions to improve oral and overall health across the state with a focus on prevention, early intervention and expanding access to care for young children.
