Boys & Girls Clubs of King County has been recognized nationally for programs that help kids:

  • Prepare for high school graduation and college
  • Explore career paths
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Care for their community
  • Engage in positive behaviors
  • Expand their creativity
  • Learn healthy lifestyle options and then make the right choices

Here is an overview of programs offered at our Southwest Club:

Formula for Impact
We follow Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Formula for Impact in every aspect of our programming. This research-based theory of change describes how individual Clubs and the movement as a whole will increase our impact on the lives of young people, particularly those most in need. Each element of our Formula for Impact incorporates research into the ways that young people grow and thrive. We believe that when we take members and give them the best outcome-driven Club experience, we will see an increase in their Club and school attendance; their drive to graduate from high school; and their ability to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Power Hour Program
We require all youth in grades K-6 to go directly to their assigned Power Hour rooms upon arrival from school to complete their nightly homework and reading assignments. Members who don't have any homework are required to read for 30 minutes, and we provide a wide selection of books. We track homework completion and reading completion for every member. Youth can earn Power Hour dollars to use at quarterly "auctions" to purchase toys, books, games, etc.

Be Ready and Be Great Graduate
These programs are for middle- and high-school students. We provide 1:1 mentoring to those enrolled, assisting them in getting their homework finished on time, tracking grades for each of their classes, addressing school absences and assisting with college applications.

Dinner Program
Dinner is served to our members each day from 5 to 6 p.m. This complimentary aspect of our program helps us make sure all of our kids are healthy and their tummies are full. Our menu is USDA approved.

Daily Coordinated Activities
We have age-appropriate activities happening in each of our rooms at all times. Our games room, computer lab, gymnasium, music studio and teen center provide plenty of engaging activities to keep all of our youth busy.

Athletic Leagues
Our non-competitive learning leagues teach our members dedication, discipline, determination and teamwork. Each registered youth receives a t-shirt and a trophy to commemorate their experience. Specific information about each league is available at the front desk.
