This school year started off with a bang at Salmon Bay Boys & Girls Club as we introduce new programs and enjoy old favorites!
1. Congratulations to all who participated in the Great Reading Challenge for September! At the Salmon Bay Boys & Girls Club, we’ve developed a new reading incentive program where club kids fill out book reports for books they’ve read at the Club. We pool the pages together as a Club for prizes! See poster below.
You read that correctly: if Club members collectively read 100,000 pages by the end of the school year, they will be able to design and submit a permanent tattoo design that participating counselors (who have very enthusiastically volunteered) will get!
We are pleased to announce that this month, Club kids read a total of 3,514 pages! Keep up the good work!
2. This month’s Youth of the Month is Harry K.! He is our “Jump Right In” Youth of the Month for starting off this school year with integrity, passion, and leadership! Way to go, Harry!
3. Our pre-CIT program has officially begun! This program was developed at the Salmon Bay Boys & Girls Club as a job readiness and leadership program for our 4th and 5th graders. Pre-CITs, or pre-“counselors in training,” are given responsibilities like a CIT, aiding the Otter (Kindergarten) counselors with activity planning, youth engagement, and chores. This is our third year doing the pre-CIT program, and we’ve developed additions to the program that we think will make the experience more enjoyable for youth and counselors alike! All 4th and 5th graders may fill out an application for our program and turn it in to a counselor. Applications due by the end of October!
Pre-CIT, Julia, with 1st grader, Aoife.
