Bill Burton Event Recap
March 31, 2022 was officially Bill Burton Day, as proclaimed by King County Executive Dow Constantine and Mayor Bruce Harrell!
As a director at the Rainier Vista Club for over twenty years, Bill Burton was instrumental in driving the expansion of the Club and made a huge impact on many young people’s lives.
A group of those close to Bill Burton including Vernessa Alexander, Ernie Dunston, Nate Miles, Jeff Pyatt, and Larry Williams organized a wonderful opportunity to recognize Bill and his many years of service to the Boys & Girls Club community.
On March 31, over 100 guests gathered at the Rainier Vista Club to celebrate a Club legend. During the program, speakers who worked with and were mentored by Bill shared their stories and their appreciation.
In addition to the official proclamations made by King County and Seattle representatives, the planning group announced a fundraising effort in Bill’s name to make the Club accessible to all community members, regardless of their financial situation. “Bill Burton Scholarships for Rainier Vista Youth” is currently accepting donations to carry on Bill’s legacy at the Club of creating an inclusive space for all neighborhood youth.

The program wrapped up with a lively and fun performance by the Rainier Vista Club’s youth step team, which Bill invited to practice in the Club years ago.
As Bill and his wife Ruthie were showered with love, longtime Club friends reunited and current community leaders shared how Bill first saw their potential. The event served as a great reminder of how one person’s dedication, persistence, and positivity can truly make a difference for generations.
Thanks to the family members, event organizers, and Club supporters, Bill Burton’s inspiration will continue on at the Club for many years to come.
