Community Triples Nourishing Neighbors Donations for Local Kids

December 2, 2020

SEATTLE  — In September, Boys & Girls Clubs of King County was selected as a charity partner for Safeway and Albertsons to receive donations from its annual Nourishing Neighbors campaign to ensure every child has access to a healthy breakfast. The generous response from shoppers tripled from the amount of the original goal. Safeway stores collected donations on the organization’s behalf in September at 32 locations in neighborhoods near Clubs.

By raising these much-needed funds to support food for youth in their communities was a tremendous show of community. We are so grateful to everyone who donated so that we can serve even more kids, especially during this critical time when food insecurity is growing,” said Laurie Black, President & CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of King County.

“Now more than ever, fighting hunger is crucial to helping kids stay healthy and stay on track with their education,” Black elaborated.

Boys & Girls Clubs of King County offers full- and part-time programming to support remote learning, ensuring that all youth can continue to thrive during this unprecedented time.

Clubs are currently serving more than 800 youth a day, from 240 schools, in 24 Clubs. Programs are also serving a larger percentage of youth experiencing homelessness and foster care.
