Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Opportunities

On Monday, January 18, 2021 our Clubs will close to give our members and staff an opportunity to do service and promote non-violence in their own way in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

King sought equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged, and all victims of injustice through peaceful protest. He was the driving force behind watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, which helped bring about such landmark legislation as the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

At the age of thirty-five, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have receive the Nobel Peace Prize for Peace and Justice, in 1964 for his non-violent struggle for civil rights for the Afro-American population. Because of his passion for the disenfranchised people of the world, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day has become the most recognized day on the calendar for community service. King spoke of service, community, empowerment, and nonviolence.

We encourage our community members to use Monday as a day to volunteer, celebrate community, and honor the memory of Dr. King.
