On Wednesday, July 11th, nearly 800 youth from across Boys & Girls Clubs of King County came together at University of Washington’s Husky Stadium for this year’s Summer Field Day.
Throughout the morning, kids rotated through stations and had the chance to play soccer, kickball, football, golf, rugby, and ultimate frisbee, and do yoga and other core strength exercises. From practicing correct tackle technique in Majestics’ jerseys to participating in jump rope competitions and learning the ins and outs of a good frisbee toss, there were activities to engage all interests!
In the afternoon, President/CEO Dr. Lisa Chin, our sponsors, and two UW basketball players spoke to youth about the importance of healthy habits and staying active. Following, one staff member from each Club had a chance to compete in a watermelon eating contest! Finally, we celebrated Boys & Girls Clubs of King County’s 75th Anniversary by coming together on the field to create a giant “75.”
Thank you United Healthcare, Foster Pepper, and University of Washington for sponsoring our event and ensuring the day was a success! A huge thank you to the partners who brought so much energy and excitement to coaching and came out for the day to run our stations: Seattle Majestics, HappyFeet, Atavus Rugby, Orange Theory, Seattle Cascades, Seattle United, and the First Tee. Thank you to Hot 103.7 for announcing all of the exciting activity on the field and for DJ duty! And finally, thank you to Buffalo Wild Wings, Sparkling Ice, and Power Crunch for providing delicious food, drinks, and snacks – we couldn’t have made it through our active day without them.
We’re already looking forward to Summer Field Day 2019!
