Reviving Red Barn Ranch: Teens Lead by Example!
Boys & Girls Clubs of King County & City of Seattle Embark on a New Partnership

This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 20 teens from Ballard, Bainbridge, Kirkland, Wallingford, and Southwest Clubs made a big difference at Red Barn Ranch in Auburn. Their hard work kicks off our exciting partnership with the ranch and the City of Seattle, aiming to provide the opportunity for kids access to rural nature experiences.
Red Barn Ranch, once a youth camp founded by NBA star Elgin Baylor, has been quiet for years. Club teens, braving cold weather, helped clear the land and shared ideas for its future. This effort is part of our new partnership with Red Barn Ranch and the City of Seattle to use the ranch for our upcoming Spring break camp and more.

Garrett, a teen member, found joy in the simplicity of the day saying, “The hike that we did, seeing the old trees, was the coolest part.” This connection to nature and history was a common theme among the teens.

Another teen member, Gonzi, shared his enthusiasm as he talked about clearing the front fences where animals used to be, enjoying the time with friends Anthony and Garrett.
The tour of the ranch was a highlight for many. “It was super cool,” Gonzi recalled. He was particularly excited about the tennis court, hoping to see it operational again. Looking ahead, he mused, “If it doesn’t open by the time I graduate high school, I would want to work there or at the Club.”
Gonzi summed up the day’s experience perfectly: “It was good, fun, long, and really cold. But also peaceful and relaxing.”
The day’s success was thanks to EarthCorps, community partners, and our committed teens. They showed up ready to work in the cold and honor Martin Luther King’s Legacy of service to their community.

We’re excited about what this partnership means for Club youth. Thanks to everyone who supported this initiative.
Keep an eye out for more updates as we transform Red Barn Ranch!
