Spring Break Camp:
A Day of Discovery and Adventure at Red Barn Ranch

Our day began in typical Club style—shirts on, water bottles filled, sunscreen applied. Then the excitement revved up as the Microsoft buses rolled in. “That’s the bus we’re taking?!” exclaimed an amazed first grader. After a final head count, we embarked on our adventure to Red Barn Ranch in Auburn, where the air was fresh with the scent of spring.

Transported in style by Microsoft’s generous charter fleet, complete with onboard bathrooms (a hit with the kids!), our members were primed for excitement.

We did our best to create a real summer camp experience. Our younger members, decked out in cardboard tree costumes and animal masks courtesy of Vincent, a Program Director, played ‘Fire in the Forest’ to burn off some energy. They engaged in scavenger hunts across the fields and practiced breathwork near the trees to center themselves before the adventure.

Members got to participate in calming mindfulness practices and crafts. The goal of these activities is to give members a new appreciation for the wonderful outdoors while also reminding them of the mental wellness benefits of being outside.

The teens had a separate itinerary that was just as thrilling. They kicked off with pizza—always a favorite—followed by an expansive hike to take in the sights and sounds of the ranch. Afterward, they could choose between a creative workshop with GGN Landscape Architecture to envision the ranch’s future or a game of Capture the Flag.

Once a youth camp founded by NBA star Elgin Baylor, Red Barn Ranch had been quiet for years. That silence ended this spring. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our teens made their mark by helping clear the land, kicking off a promising partnership with the City of Seattle. This collaboration aims to open doors for our Club members to engage with rural nature, and we’re thrilled to report our first programs there were a resounding success!

Through our partnership with the City of Seattle, members are discovering a new appreciation for the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty. The activities entertain and instill a sense of mental wellness and connection to the environment. We’re eager to expand these experiences with more innovative programming at Red Barn Ranch this summer!
