What is top of mind for you right now?

We’re busy planning summer camps for thousands of local youth. It is a time when many kids go hungry because they don’t have access to the free and reduced-fee meals at their schools. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide healthy, nutritious food so our kids are able to learn, play, and grow. For some kids, the only hot, nutritious meal they can count on comes from the Club.

What is the most inspiring thing you’ve witnessed this year?

Getting to know Khairi, the 2018 King County Youth of the Year from Federal Way. He is 17 and one of the most humble, giving, and goal-oriented teens I have ever met. He has overcome so much in life, benefited so much from the Boys & Girls Club, and is now on a clear path to college. He is an incredible representative of our Clubs and a role model for all youth!

Can you share some of the latest news at our Clubs?

We’ve been hard at work keeping our curriculum fresh and relevant. We have a new STEM Taskforce and Advisory Board looking deeply at how we develop digital literacy and making sure that our Club kids have access to robotics, coding, and science programming. Generous support from our partners and donors allows us to really dig in, collaborate with the right people, provide more training for our staff, and support the work of our public education partners.
