Last week, our very own Sigrid (Executive Director of Youth Force) and Melissa (Director of Institutional Giving) embarked on a journey to Washington D.C. for the Boys & Girls Club of America’s National Days of Advocacy. They were among over 300 representatives from across the nation, coming together with a unified mission to champion the future of youth in America.

Over two days, Mel and Sigrid stood with advocates from all 50 states,  Puerto Rico, and Native lands, engaging in critical discussions with Senators and Congress representatives. The focus was clear: to drive forward the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s three major priorities – academic recovery and success, youth well-being (encompassing mental wellness and food security), and workforce development.

A highlight of the week was the Washington State delegation, along with CEO Jim Clark, presenting Senator Patty Murray with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Congressional Champion for Youth award. This accolade is a testament to Senator Murray’s unwavering commitment to the well-being and success of our nation’s youth.

Sigrid and Melissa’s engagements with both Washington State Senators and the five representatives of the districts where our Clubs operate were pivotal. These discussions weren’t just about voicing our needs; they were about weaving the threads of our local experiences into the national tapestry of youth advocacy, ensuring our communities’ voices are heard and valued at every level.

As we reflect on our experiences at the Days of Advocacy, we’re reminded of the power of collective action and the importance of our mission. This event was not just an opportunity for advocacy but a reaffirmation of our commitment to the youth we serve. Together, with the continued support of our community and leaders like Senator Murray, we move forward, inspired and motivated to make a difference in the lives of young people everywhere.
