In late July, Ballard Boys & Girls Club field was full of excitement as youth, staff, and special guests gathered for an unforgettable afternoon of reading, fun, and inspiration. Hosted in partnership with Amazon, the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the Smithsonian, TNF For Good brought literacy to life for dozens of Club youth in King County.

The event provided hundreds of books to youth at our Ballard Club, and more than 1,000 to Club youth across King County.

From the moment kids walked onto the field, they were greeted with energy, joy, and a world of possibility. Each child selected Smithsonian-curated books to take home, ensuring they can continue exploring new worlds and ideas long after the event ended. With Seahawks legend Ben Obomanu, dancers, and mascot Blitz on hand, the youth engaged in hands-on literacy activities and storytelling, making learning fun.

These carefully chosen stories reflected a wide range of genres and cultural perspectives, allowing youth to see new places, understand different lives, and imagine great futures for themselves.

Many families rely on Clubs during summer to keep their kids safe, engaged, and growing. That includes making sure their minds stay sharp and their creativity keeps flowing. Thanks to TNF For Good, Amazon, the Seahawks, and the Smithsonian, our youth didn’t just receive books; they received affirmation that their stories matter and their futures are worth investing in.

At Boys & Girls Clubs, we use these stories to spark a love of reading that fuels imagination, and when a young person’s imagination is ignited, it opens the door to a thriving, full life,” Boys & Girls Clubs of King County CEO Lori Bae said.

Events like these reinforce what we already know to be true: when young people are given tools, trust, and the right environment, they rise.
