How Boys & Girls Clubs of King County Youth Are Taking Part in the World Cup Experience

When the world’s biggest sporting event comes to Seattle, the excitement extends far beyond the stadium.

This summer, Boys & Girls Clubs of King County youth will have the opportunity to engage with the FIFA World Cup through a series of experiences designed to inspire leadership, creativity, healthy lifestyles, and community connection. Thanks to the support of incredible community partners, Club youth will participate in events that bring them closer to the game while introducing them to new opportunities both on and off the field.

From health and wellness initiatives to career exploration and once-in-a-lifetime moments on the world stage, these experiences reflect the power of sport to unite communities and create pathways for young people to thrive.

Building Healthy Futures

The World Cup experience begins on June 14 at Seattle’s waterfront, where a group of Boys & Girls Clubs youth will participate in a special soccer celebration hosted by our partners at U.S. Bank and Seattle Reign FC.

Youth will have the opportunity to take part in a small-pitch soccer scrimmage and watch a World Cup match from a floating vessel at Pier 62. The day will also feature free youth heart screenings provided through a partnership between Seattle Reign FC and the Nick of Time Foundation.

Designed for youth ages 12–24, these screenings help identify underlying heart conditions that may increase the risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest while promoting greater awareness around heart health and preventative care. The screening process includes a medical history review, EKG evaluation, follow-up assessments when needed, and hands-on CPR education.

By combining sports, wellness, and education, the event highlights the importance of caring for both the physical and emotional well-being of young people.

Bringing Teens Together Through the Game

On June 25, more than 100 Club teens will gather for a World Cup Watch Party at our Smilow Rainier Vista Club.

The evening will feature a live match viewing experience, free food, soccer activities, giveaways, and opportunities for teens from across King County to connect through their shared love of the game.

More than a watch party, the event serves as a celebration of community and belonging. It will also include a special halftime announcement recognizing six exceptional Boys & Girls Clubs teens who have been selected for a unique World Cup honor that will be described in more detail below.

Exploring Creativity and Career Pathways

Sports are about more than athletes on the field. They also create opportunities for designers, marketers, storytellers, and creative professionals behind the scenes.

On June 30, Club teens will participate in a hands-on Soccer Kit Design Workshop hosted in partnership with POWERADE and the Coca-Cola FC Academy.

Guided by professional designers, participants will create their own custom soccer crests and uniforms while learning how identity, storytelling, and teamwork influence sports branding. The workshop will also introduce youth to career pathways connected to sports, design, and creative industries.

The experience encourages self-expression while helping young people discover how their passions can translate into future opportunities.

Representing King County on the World Stage

The culmination of the World Cup experience will take place on July 1 at Lumen Field.

In partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Coca-Cola Future Careers Academy, six Boys & Girls Clubs of King County teens have been selected to serve as official flag bearers during a FIFA World Cup match in Seattle.

These young leaders were chosen based on their character, service, leadership, and contributions to their Clubs and communities. As flag bearers, they will represent not only Boys & Girls Clubs of King County, but also Club youth from across the country.

Please join us in celebrating, Azarianah, Chip, Jameson, Mahir, Senai, and Wolfgang

Their selection reflects the incredible talent, leadership, and potential that exists within our Clubs every day. We’ll be showcasing each of them though out the games.

More Than a Game

While the World Cup will bring global attention to Seattle, its impact can also be felt at the local level.

For Boys & Girls Clubs of King County youth, these experiences are about more than soccer. They are opportunities to build confidence, explore future careers, strengthen community connections, prioritize health and wellness, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

We are grateful to our partners who are helping make these experiences possible and proud to see our young people represented throughout this historic moment for our region.

As Seattle prepares to welcome the world, we’re excited to see our youth step onto the field, into new opportunities, and toward bright futures.

To support more opportunities like this for Club Kids, we welcome gifts big and small.
